looking at that photo frequently you find your fickle mind forgetting the fact that
that was the night
you took one bottle too many
blanks
and far too many
blanks
and woke up passed out in the other one's bathtub.
so why the fuck are you smiling?
is it that it's over? is it that you've centered and found hope? or perhaps you know it's never really over
that you very well could be there again.
that it's following you to the most unlikely places.
stop that ridiculous smiling. you burned off your eyelashes, tore your skirt, and rendered your esophagus and stomach useless for the next week. it's not funny. that frantic lonely fever took you down in one fell swoop. the insatiable hollow can suck you under again.
and you can blame it on the human losses that never seem to end; on the trials of stumbling through the masses searching for some form of fabulous existence; on the sleepless nights and the bitter emotional distance that separates a former unit of five.
the truth is
you
gave
in.
but penance has been served, you good irish girl. you've done your time. and so perhaps it's amusing because of the random pathetic state of it all. or maybe it's fair to say that in between the missing memories and the naps and the incessant sobs you knew it wouldn't last. there was bound to be a release from the suffocating molasses mess.
Your site is fun! I didn't see the Dresden Dolls in your favorite bands, but I just completed an interview with Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls. Both interviews are on my audio page. Check them out if you get the chance.
